How Anya Taylor

Anya Taylor-Joy has been injecting a dose of Old Hollywood glamour into this year's Cannes Film Festival - as she continues to flaunt a classy selection of flashy ensembles.

The actress, 28, has been the image of elegance in a series of vintage inspired gowns, dresses and statement hats that hark back to the silver-screen stars of the 1920s and 30s.

Beads, sequins, low-cuts and timeless silhouettes all make her shine in an otherwise understated fashion selection, with many stars opting for sleek neutrals and monochromes.

Today, she wowed with a winning look as promotion for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga continued at the event.

Anya arrived for her movie's morning photocall at Palais des Festivals in a stunning glitzy headdress.

She donned a cropped cream jacket and matching pencil skirt with fringe detail, adding a gothic edge to her look with lashing of dark eyeshadow.

The actress posed with her co-star Chris Hemsworth, who looked dashing in a pale pink three piece suit.

In line with the Gatsby-inspired aesthetics she's been sporting, Anya on Wednesday walked the red carpet in a shimmering strapless Dior ballgown - and later vamped up her look in a plunging 1920s fringed minidress with evening gloves and a glittering silver necklace to head to the show's after-party.

In another outfit from that day, the actress put on a racy display in a silver cardigan encrusted in sparkly diamonds, beads and sequins - which she teamed with retro-style black shorts.

Looking chic in an outfit reminiscent of Marylin Monroe's, Anya opted for cherry red lipstick and cat-eye sunglasses.

It's not the first ensemble that had people comparing the Queen's Gambit actress to the blonde bombshell.

Before the festival even officially began, Anya ditched the travel-friendly notion of leggings and a hoodie as made her entrance through customs in a burnt orange one-shoulder dress from Atlein Paris's new collection, £750 high-heeled, ankle-strap Jimmy Choo Ixia sandals and a £340 ultra-wide brimmed La Chapeau Bomba hat by Jacquemus.

Elsewhere this week the star teamed a sheer white strapless dress - adorned with flower appliques - with a huge straw hat hanging around her neck by a black strap.

Videos showing Anya at Cannes also showed the theatrical poses and posture that she has been sporting during the festival, adding even more cinematic glamour to her appearance.

Speaking at the press conference for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the star gushed about her stunt double Hayley Wright.

'It doesn't make any sense how safe this film was. It doesn't make any sense,' she said.

'Everything she did, I did too. Rather than being an environment of aggression... it was "I love you, I believe in you, you can do this".

'God I love these stunt people, they're so wonderful... and you know what? Best people on set, always!'

Meanwhile Doug revealed it took a stunt department of 264 people to create the movie's relentless and complex action sequences.

With one stunt taking an incredible 74 days to shoot, he added: 'Every day, we all wake up with the reality that we could injure somebody or kill somebody, so the stunt department isn't just there to madly do something.

'It has a tremendous amount of infrastructure underneath it.'

Chris, who plays the baddie Dementus, said he loved his 'villainous persona' but wanted to 'sprinkle in moments of vulnerability' to his character.

'There was a vibrance and bombastic nature on the page and I wanted to lean into the absurdity of the character,' he explained.

The night before, Chris and Anya looked teary-eyed as they received an amazing six-minute standing ovation for their movie as it premiered at Cannes.

Chris plays warlord leader Dementus, while Anya is a young Furiosa, in the upcoming film which is set between 15 and 20 years before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road.

The audience at the world premiere went wild for the latest action film as the final credits rolled.

Anya looked overjoyed as she blew kisses into the camera while Chris looked emotional from the lengthy ovation.

Director George Miller briefly said afterwards: 'We worked very hard on this film, and it'll be very interesting to see what you make of it. Thank you for having us.'

The Fury Road prequel was one of the most-anticipated premieres out of this year's Cannes.

Filming for Furiosa took place in New South Wales, Australia, beginning in June 2022 and wrapped up in October.

The fifth installment of the 'Mad Max' franchise opens in theaters on May 24 in the United States from Warner Bros., which is hoping the film will match (or exceed) the $380 global box office of 'Fury Road.' With a budget of $168 million, 'Furiosa' will need to do big business to turn a profit.

Miller, who created the 'Mad Max' franchise, and has directed all five films dating back to 1979.

He was most recently at Cannes in 2022 with 'Three Thousand Years of Longing,' starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton. He also served as the festival's jury president in 2016.
